in response to Starshine... you are 100 percent correct cocerning my responsibiltity for my crime. it is my fault. but, should the government really spend all the money to incarcerate someone for something they will probably do again without treatment? is it right that i get the same punishment that a dealer with 1000 worth gets? well this is the case. my point is they should not have a standardized sentencing guidline for every case is not the same. if they focused on treating users in stead of locking them up, they would spend a fraction of what it costs to lock them up and reduce the recidivism rate which would save more money. all of this save money could then be used to help people like you in your situation. im not trying to get out of my situation, i do accept that i was wrong. i just think that the system is flawed. the war on drugs is a joke, they will never stop it. but, if they took the time to treat addicts they would reduce demand which would win more battles than the current approach. they put dealers and addicts together, this is flat out wrong. not to be on a high horse or anything, but, i would never sell drugs, it ruins lives. i have been clean since i got out of jail on bond almost a year ago and with this soberity has come clear thoughts, and standards sentences are one of those thoughts and its just dead wrong. i say abolish standard sentences and establish dealers from addicts. this will allow proper punishment for the crimes that people commit. a case by case basis is how criminal matters should be handled. sorry love, but, we have a dlwed system, this is clearly evidenced by both of our court experiences. oh and they did not find it on me but under the passengers seat not mine. he would not claim so it is thrown on me. regaurdless small amounts should not be punished the same as dealers quantities. the should have rules for trace amounts and then less than a gram then on up. they can establish a proper sentence when it is not lumped in a huge category. look at a progressive nations drug policy vs. crime rate. treatment of addicts and differing treatment of dealers works you can c in netherlands it works.
